Pa'ksíkoyi

Pa'ksíkoyi

Traditionally, the Blackfoot people did not eat bears. Long ago, the grizzly bear was a protector of the people, and taught them how to survive. In return, the people did not hunt the bear and showed him respect.

"Pa’ksíkoyi" is 18 x 24 x 1.5" acrylic on canvas.

Pa’ksíkoyi is the  Blackfoot word for "Grizzly Bear."  This painting depicts two Pa’ksíkoyi waiting to fill their bellies in the September salmon runs atop a waterfall in Indian Country. September is the end of berry season and the salmon runs when the grizzly's are fattening up for the long Rocky Mountain winter.
