Returns Without a Rider

This is a stylized picture of a Palamino war horse on an authentic 1878 Leger  page of unknown origin. The artist was gifted the ledger book dated 1878 through 1879.
 
A rider went off into battle, and his horse returned without him, leaving his fate to be desided by the viewer. The image shows the returning horse in front of a mountain range in the sun.
